Khao Lak – Places to Eat
Restaurants in Khao Lak are in abundance so it’s often hard to decide where to go and what to try from all the amazing choices. Whether you fancy delicious mouthwatering Thai dishes, Indian cuisine, Scandinavian favourites, British pub grub, Pizza and Pasta, or amazing steaks, there always something close by to fill hungry stomachs.
Here’s just a short selection of a few of our favourite places located in the La On and Bang Niang areas.
LA ON VILLAGE
Often mistaken for the actual Khao Lak, the village of La On is the first of two main areas holiday makers find as they travel down from the mountain road heading north. With Nang Thong Beach a short distance from the main road, this 1km long strip offers countless places to eat and drink.
‘Walkers’ can be found heading south out from Khao Lak (just look for the bright orange building) and does a mix of British food and Thai dishes. This large venue is very casual in its atmosphere, but not in its food. Great Thai Food and dishes like mixed grill, fish & chips, pies & mash are just a few examples of what to expect.
Khao Lak Phu View
If stunning sunsets, cocktails, and great Thai food is your thing, then Phu View is for you. Located up a steep hill off the main road in La On, the view overlooking Khao Lak is definitely worth the effort if you choose to walk. Fear not though, they offer a free pick-up and drop-off taxi service if you book in advance – which is advisable for evenings.
Create your own salad in steps from a vast array of fresh ingredients available, or choose from one of their signature salads. Also on the menu is the ever popular spicy Thai salads such as Som Tam and glass noodle salad. Drinks at Qcumber include proper fresh coffee, fresh fruit juices and fruit shakes, Thai iced tea and herbal teas.
Real Thai food and real Thai prices. Located on the main road of La On, Go Pong has been serving traditional Thai dishes for many years. Fast service, fresh dishes, and great prices make this a favourite ‘go to’ for holidays makers and local alike. Noodle Soup and Khao Kha Moo (stewed pork with greens) are just two of their must try dishes.
BANG NIANG VILLAGE
Just two short kilometres north of La On is the second main village of the Khao Lak area. Bang Niang once again offers a multitude of places to eat and drink. You find the majority of establishments located on the beach soi (small road) as you turn left from the traffic lights – but there many more gems to find along the main road. A little more compact in it’s layout, Bang Niang is great for an evening walk and finding a new ‘go to’ place each day.
Located at the rear of Bang Niang Market, Green Pepper offers an extensive menu of Thai dishes along with a selection of Swedish specialties. Their Healthy portions, reasonable prices, and friendly atmosphere is great for breakfast, lunch, and evening dinner.
For late night Thai food cravings Mr Aek is a must! Open until the early hours, this is a real Thai restaurant for real Thai food lovers. The open kitchen allows you to see all their fresh produced being prepared and cooked before you, so you know it is good quality and straight from the wok.
Located in the heart of Bang Niang the Team at Pizza Time are making great use of their wood fired oven to make delicious authentic pizza from fresh ingredients and at great prices. Super friendly staff, honest tasty food, and at the time of writing they are also the only place in town that that offers home delivery!
The Rusty Pelican
Offering the only truly Mexican dishes in the area. The hosts Mo and Noi can whip you up a large burrito, super nachos or even sizzling fajitas in what seems like no time at all. The Rusty Pelican proudly pours the strongest drinks in town (try their Frozen Margarita!) and the beer is ice cold. Free WIFI, free pool table, and always good music playing in the back ground.
