What is a Similan Islands Diving Liveaboard?

Well, another amazing season comes to an end and so it seems like a good time to explain and show exactly what life on-board MV Oktavia is like during our Similan Islands Diving Liveaboard.  This movie was filmed on location and captures some of the magical sights and marine life we are so lucky to enjoy here at Oktavia Dive Center.  A very special thanks goes to our wonderful guests who have joined us this season (some of who have contributed to the footage in this movie), and we very much hope to see you all gain sometime in the future!

If the whole Liveaboard experience is new to you then please take time to watch this movie and read the extra text below.  Bookings are now available for the coming 2017-2018 season, so please check our Prices & Availability page for further information.

Very best wishes

What is a Similan Islands Liveaboard?

Joining MV Oktavia for a Similan Islands Liveaboard is the best way to discover the beauty above and below the waterline of this stunning set of Islands set in the Andaman Sea.

Here at Oktavia Dive Center our Liveaboard vessel MV Oktavia is designed to be exactly that – a large self-sufficient boat that provides a wonderful platform for you to stay on as you cruise through the Similan and Surin National Marine Parks.  Whether diving or snorkeling, all your needs are catered for including eating, sleeping and extra activities such as Island excursions.

MV Oktavia completes 5 Day/5 Night cruises through the Similan and Surin National Marine Parks every week during the open season.  For guests who do not have that much time, or prefer not to be on a boat that long, shorter cruises are possible.  Within our 5 day/ 5 night cruise guests can choose either to join us for the first 2 days & 2 nights or the last 3 days & 2 nights. Guests who opt for the 2 day & 2 night cruise will be transferred back to land by Day Trip boat in the afternoon of the second day having enjoyed the best of the Similan Islands, and a taxi will bring you back to your Khao Lak hotel. Guests joining us on the third day are picked up from their Khao Lak hotel early morning and transferred out meet up with MV Oktavia –  typically at Similan Island #8 or #9. From Day 3 onwards we head further north and visit what are generally considered the best dive sites in Thailand: Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.

Life On-Board

Life on-board is super relaxed and each day begins with an “early bird breakfast”, where you can help yourself to cereal, toast, fresh fruit or just a cup of coffee for those who need a boost of energy before diving. A full breakfast follows each morning dive and the surface interval allows you time to taking in your new surroundings for that day.  After the second dive of the day on your Similan Islands liveaboard, it is lunchtime and all this diving makes for hungry guests, so we always ensure there is plenty of food for everyone. Following the third dive, you will surface to some yummy hot snacks, followed by the last dive of the day then a hot dinner. We cater to everyone from vegetarians and vegans to those following religious diets, so just let us know when you book and we will pass on your needs to our chef.

Our Similan Islands liveaboard is so popular because it is much more relaxed than daytrips and it doubles your time in the water. An MV Oktavia cruise is a complete experience with diving, snorkeling, beach runs, island excursions, nature walks, marine life presentations and more.  If you just want to relax, the boat offers ample space on the upper deck and sundeck – both in the sun and shaded.

Nights are spent in one of our Blue Ocean Cabins, which feature an open cupboard to store your belongings, air conditioning and a fan to keep you cool.  Double bed or Single twin bunk with pillows and a blanket come as standard. There are four toilets with fresh hot water showers that are shared between the Standard Cabins.

There are also two Master Cabins available for anyone who wants to have more space and a private bathroom. The Master Cabins come with an en-suite shower, toilet and sink plus an LCD TV, DVD player, a sitting area with two large seats, a double bed and a desk for anyone wanting to write postcards or update their log book in between dives.

Whichever option you choose, we at Oktavia Dive Center are dedicated to making each trip as special and as memorable as we can for every one of our guests, and it’s no wonder that so many come back to see us year after year and become a member of the Oktavia Family.
