Trip Leader for MV Oktavia

The 28th October to 1st of November saw our first trip of the new 2019-2020 Similan Islands Diving season on-board MV Oktavia as we visited Koh Similan, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, Richelieu Rock.

I’m so happy to be back working again with my colleague Hiep and our fantastic boat crew.  We have a few new faces this season and the changes are all for the good.  The boat herself is also looking is great as we have new flooring, bedding, and mattresses running through every cabin – making for a much more inviting place to spend evenings on-board for our guests from Germany, the UK and USA as they enjoyed the most beautiful and stunning dive sites of Thailand.

On our first day I’m very pleased to report that the Reefs are looking so great this season, with full of fish, Hawksbill Turtles, Leopard Sharks, White Tip Reef sharks and more!  After the second day we left The Similan Islands and headed to Koh bon, where the conditions were even better, plenty of beautiful fish and pristine waters.

The third day we woke up in Koh Tachai ready for what is probably my favourite dive site – the stunning Koh Tachai Pinnacle where schools of Barracudas was waiting for us, and after the first dive we kept heading to the north up to the world famous Richelieu Rock.  We took three dives in a row here as you can never get bored of it! Tons of fish and specials secrets found around the rocks, and cuttlefish getting amorous with each other make for happy divers every time.

Our final days saw us back at Koh Tachai and Koh Bon to try our chances at seeing some of our bigger friends of the ocean – Manta Rays and Whale Sharks.  Unfortunately we didn’t see them on this trip, but any disappointment soon vanished when we came across a huge Marbled Stingray (maybe 2 meters across) plus a family of nine Black tip Reef sharks!

This season starts great as always and we would like to thanks our guests for coming and joining us in the magic that is our Similan Islands Liveaboard!
